Maintaining certification as a CORE Advanced or NLS Advanced Instructor depends upon meeting the requirements in accordance with any rules and regulations set by the New Zealand Resuscitation Council.

CORE Advanced and NLS Advanced instructors must demonstrate they are meeting the requirements of certification set by the NZ Resuscitation Council, from the time of successful completion of their instructor course.

By meeting these requirements, instructors demonstrate their continued commitment to teaching and professional development.

Instructors are reviewed annually (1 July and ending 30 June the following year).

• Instructors are required to deliver at least three advanced provider courses within the review year
• For CORE Advanced and NLS Advanced instructors, this means three CORE Advanced or three NLS Advanced courses every annual review cycle.
• The instructor demonstrates networking and professional development by attending at least one NZ Resuscitation Council approved activity every two years.

        (e.g. NZ Resuscitation Council Scientific Meeting).

The NZ Resuscitation Council maintains a record that instructors are fulfilling their requirements for ongoing certification after each course.

The Course Director must electronically return the fully completed learner participant sheet to the NZ Resuscitation Council within one week of course completion to ensure this information is up to date.

Delivery and assessment of provider courses must follow the rules and regulations set by the NZ Resuscitation Council.  An instructor may be moderated if selected as part of the evaluation process. The NZ Resuscitation Council reserves the right to cancel an instructor's certification at any time if the instructor does not follow these rules and regulations.

Instructors who do not meet the NZ Resuscitation Council’s annual requirements may be asked to provide additional information or undertake remedial action.

An instructor who has not taught on any provider courses within a 2 year review period will no longer be recognised by the NZ Resuscitation Council as a CORE Advanced or NLS Advanced instructor.

If an instructor has not taught the required number of provider courses but wants to reinstate their membership, you are encouraged to contact the NZ Resuscitation Council in writing.

Pathways to revalidation may be available. Once it has been shown how the instructor will again meet minimum requirements, an application for reinstatement will be considered.

CINZ meetings and professional development activities usually occur at least every two years. Instructors can stay notified of these meetings by subscribing to our updates. Instructors are encouraged to support CINZ meetings and take the opportunity to network with colleagues.

While it is recommended that instructors attend CINZ meetings, some instructors may not be able to make it on the day. The following are regarded as equivalent to NZ Resuscitation Council professional development activities for the purposes of instructors maintaining their status:

• Attendance as a learner on other resuscitation courses. Examples may include Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), Emergency Management of Surgical Trauma (EMST), Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) course
• Any open NZ Resuscitation Council educational or scientific meeting
• Any other conference, meeting, or relevant event approved by the NZ Resuscitation Council
• Any open Australian Resuscitation Council educational or scientific meeting
• Australian Resuscitation Council conferences
• European Resuscitation Council conferences
• American Heart Association resuscitation conferences
• International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) meetings.
